The Iowa Department
of Transportation recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy
of information collected on our Web site.
You do not
have to provide personal information to visit our Web site or download
information. However, when you do visit our site, we may collect
the following information in order to measure the number of visitors
to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site
more useful to visitors:
- the name of the domain
from which you access the Internet (i.e., aol.com, if you are
using an America Online account);
- the date and time
you access our site; and
- the pages that you
visit while on our site.
We will only collect
personal information from you that is necessary to provide the information
or services that you may request when visiting our Web site. For
example, if you are requesting a product or service that we offer,
or want a reply to your question or comment, then we will ask for
your e-mail address, or your name and mailing address so that we
may respond appropriately.
We will not share any
personally-identifiable information we receive on our Web site with
persons outside our department. No marketing databases will be created
nor will any commercial use be made of any data we may collect.
Access to personally-identifiable
information in public records at state and local levels of government
in Iowa is controlled primarily by Chapter 22 of the Code of Iowa,
the law on Examination of Public Records (Open Records).
Various commercial Web
sites may be links from our site. These private sector sites are
not subject to Chapter 22 of the Code of Iowa or to the Iowa Fair
Information Practices Act. Visitors to those sites may wish to check
the privacy statements of the sites, and be cautious about providing
personally-identifiable information.
